It is with profound sadness that the Pothier Family announces the passing of our beloved “Mom, Nan, Nanny Vina and Great Nan” the matriarch of the Pothier family on November 10th 2015 at Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home, Dartmouth, N.S.

She was predeceased by her husband, Vernon and beloved daughter, Paulette as well as siblings: Elie, Gilbert, Olive, Fabiola, Alpheda, Edmund, William, John Fred, Floriment, Redger, Louise, Ernest, Leo and Joseph. She is survived by daughter, Denise Russell, Halifax and sons, Paul (Susan) Pothier, Halifax, Eric (Janet) Pothier, Coldbrook , son in law, Eric Jenkins, Halifax, grandchildren Keri (Aaron) Bower, Halifax, Adam (Mary) Jenkins, Brookside, Mark (Nicole) Landry, Bedford, Brittany Forgeron, Halifax, Eric Jr.(Andrea) Pothier, Centreville, Hailea (Doug Sawler) Pothier, Blockhouse, Tiffannie (Clifford Kyle Power) Pothier, Chester Grant, great grandchildren, Madison & Audrey Jenkins, Lukah & Piper Pothier, Owen & Josh Bower, Emily & Blake Landry, Jack & Ivy Power, Kingston Ashe, one remaining sister, Mabel Noel of Montreal, and many nieces and nephews.
Mom left her home in Fatima, Iles de la Madeleine in her early twenties to travel to Halifax where she met and married Vernon Pothier originally of Wedgeport. The couple made their home in Halifax where they raised four children. The Pothier door was always open with an extra bed available for friends or family, whether they came to stay for a day or months at a time.
Truly a social lady her whole life, Mom enjoyed bingo and bowling with the many friends she made along the way. Her family meant everything to her. Nothing brought her more joy than seeing her family and spending time with them. The kids brought her to life and sparked the twinkle in her eyes. She gave the best hugs in the world. In her home the kitchen was always available to whoever dropped in and she was an amazing cook. She was such a welcoming person that she was known as “Mom” to many of our friends, and they know who they are. She was a devout member of St Stephen’s Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Oakwood Terrace for their special care that Mom received during her four years with them. Visitation will take place Sunday, November 15th between 1 and 4 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Funeral service on Monday, November 16th at 11 am at Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish (formerly St. Stephen’s), Normandy Drive, Halifax. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society and to the Oakwood Terrace Recreation Department.
