It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Angele Antonios Rizcallah of Halifax. Angele passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, surrounded by her family. Born in Chekka, Lebanon on January 15, 1938, Angele was the daughter of Antonios and Virginia Amoud.
Angele was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to all. She is survived by her four children: Jacqueline Chahine (Chahwan), Vivi, Philip (Gillian) and Maurice (Susan), her grandchildren: Brandon, Soleil, Dahlia, Shiloh, Eliahs, Emmanuelle, Gabriele, Ethan, Justine, Ryan, Ava and eight great grandchildren, her husband Fawzi, her brother, Arthur (Maroi) Amoud. Also survived by brothers-in-law: Maurice Dennaoui, Labib (Nawal), John (Nawal), Simon (Janet) sisters-in-law: Yvonne, Jamal, Janet and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters: Yvette (Antonios) Andari, Nouha Dennaoui and Marie Amoud and by brothers-in-law: Rene, Maurice, Adel, and Joseph
Angele immigrated to Canada in 1967 and made homes in both Dartmouth and Halifax. As she established her own home and family in Canada she generously guided and supported many families that followed from Lebanon.
For many years Angele volunteered in the Our Lady of Lebanon Church and was a member of the Confraternity of our Lady. Working tirelessly, she supported the church and her community in whatever way was needed.
Angele was a creative and talented seamstress. She designed and sewed many beautiful items, including clothes, draperies and upholstery. Her dressmaking was sought out in her community. Many wedding parties throughout the years donned her beautiful dresses. All were meticulously tailored without using a pattern, but rather with only a few quick measurements and some draping of fabric.
Anyone who ever met Angele instantly experienced her kind and gentle spirit. She lived her life selflessly bestowing her love, generosity and prayers on family and friends. Her immense empathy for others was shown through the help she constantly provided to the less fortunate. Her devotion to God, her children, and especially her grandchildren, brought her great peace and solace throughout her life. Though her children may teasingly tell you otherwise, she did not have a favourite, she loved all her family equally and unconditionally, taking such enormous pride in all their accomplishments. All she ever desired was for them to be happy.
The words most often spoken by Angele were, God be with you, be kind, love each other… and take some of this food home with you before leaving.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors on unit 5A and the Palliative Care Unit, VG site of QE II Hospital, for their tremendous care and compassion. Special thank you to Dr. Kayla Mallery for her exceptional care over these past couple of years.
A visitation for Angele will be held Thursday, July 4, 2024 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. A funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 111 Clayton Park Drive, Halifax, on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church or The Canadian Cancer Society.
