Anne Marie Hubley (Marie) died peacefully at age 90, surrounded by loving family at the VG Hospital in Halifax on March 17th, 2026. Marie was born to parents Matthew and Christina Lynch on Duncan Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Marie was predeceased by both her parents as well as her six siblings, Marg Peters (Reg), Dorothy (Dot) Davies (Bob), Aileen Twohig (Bobby), James (Jimmy) Lynch (Joyce), Joseph Lynch, Marilyn Monk (Eddie), brother-in-law Cecil Hubley and her son-in-law, Joe Iafrate. Marie is survived by her sisters-in-law Norma Lynch and Beverly Hubley.
Marie is also survived by her husband Frank MacLaughlin Hubley. At approximately age 5, Marie’s family moved to Charles Street in Halifax where her beautiful love story with her future husband Frank began. Growing up across the street from one another, Marie and Frank spent many days together doing all the things that kids do growing up. Later in life this beautiful friendship turned out to be the basis for a lifelong love that most people can only dream of. For sixty-six years Frank was by Marie's side every day making sure that she never went a day without knowing that she was loved and cared for, and making sure that she was always laughing. These two were truly made for each other and the love and memories they shared together will always be remembered.
Together, Marie and Frank created a beautiful family of six children whom she is survived by: David Hubley (Linda), Ottawa; Deborah Godbout (Billy), Moncton; Wayne Hubley (Jane), New Minas; Carol Hubley, Amherst Shore; Paul Hubley, Halifax; and Pam Feltmate (Jack), Bedford. Marie is also survived by her grandchildren: Jason Hubley, Amanda Hubley (Kurt Fitzgerald), Alex Hopper, Adam Hopper, Eli Hubley, Katie Hubley, Brandon Hubley, Brent Hubley (Brianna), Conor Feltmate, and Emma Feltmate. Additionally, she is survived by her four great-grandchildren; Kenzie and Nathan Fitzgerald, Travis and Clara Hubley and her granddaughter by choice Kelly Murphy (Kevin).
Marie worked many years in the classified department at the Chronicle Herald and The Moncton Times Transcript where she made a lasting impact on both companies and was cherished by all who encountered her during that time. Aside from these jobs and raising her own six children, Marie took it upon herself to provide childcare for any local families that needed it. Marie's house was always full and it stayed this way as her children continued to grow up, and she wouldn’t have had it any other way. The Hubley home was a safe haven for so many people whether they needed a place to crash for the night, a home-cooked meal, or the best hug you could ask for, Marie was always there with open arms.
This welcoming nature never faded in Marie as she lived for her family and friends visiting her and Frank at the condo. There was nothing that Marie enjoyed more than being surrounded by people she loved and enjoying a meal and a glass of white wine. Whether it was her homemade mac and cheese, Christmas dinner at the Feltmate’s, or ordering in “Chicken and Chips”, it didn't matter as long as she was surrounded by the people she loved. Marie also loved and always looked forward to her weekly Wednesday Yahtzee games over Facetime with her children. This past summer she was able to enjoy the celebration of her and Frank's ninetieth birthdays and their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary, by being visited by so many family and friends, further proving just how loved she was by all of the people in her life.
Marie was truly a light in everyone's lives around her. To know Marie was to love her and recognize how big of a heart she had and how she always wore it on her sleeve, no matter who you were or how she knew you. Marie was always there to help and care for anyone who needed it and she was more than happy to get money out of her “en-ve-loaf” if need be. There was nobody who gave a better and more comforting hug than Marie and that is a large testament to her character because when you stepped into her house you immediately became family and were greeted with a hug and kiss on the cheek. Marie’s memory will live on forever through everyone in her life whether you knew her as Marie, mom, nana, great-nana, and many more.
The family of Marie would like to take this opportunity to express their gratitude to the staff on Unit 7B for making her time spent at the VG as comfortable as possible, through their dedication to providing upstanding care.
