At age 88 Archie passed away on August 28, 2017 at the QEII Hospital with his family at his side, wife Jean of 65 years, daughters Karen and Linda, son-in-law Darrell, granddaughters, Chelsea and Alison. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Brenda and brother-in-law Ken and their families in the U.K., and he joins his beloved dog Benji who went to Heaven in 2015.
Archie became a Fellow of both the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers. He was a partner in an engineering firm in London U.K. during which time his expertise was applied to numerous projects, the most notable of which were Chevening House, Duchy of Cornwall (Prince Charles) and Woburn Abbey (Duke of Bedford). The accomplishment of which he was most proud in London was the design of the tallest single-point suspended office structure in the world at that time.
The family immigrated to Halifax in 1975 where he was employed as an in-house engineering consultant. He later became an Associate Professor at TUNS where he developed the first Construction Management and Administration Degree programme. He also initiated a two-year course on Construction Administration Technology at the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology. During his time in Halifax he conducted his own consulting engineering practice and provided these services to many insurance companies and adjusters. He loved sailing, entered many races in the U.K. and built the boat in which he raced. We would like to thank Dr. Gregoire, our family doctor, for her prompt and constant attention to our concerns about Archie.
In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, donations would be most welcome at the S.P.C.A., 5 Scarfe Court, Dartmouth, N.S. B3B-1W4, or any charity of your choice.
A short service will be held in the chapel of J.A Snow Funeral Home on Saturday, September 2nd at 11 am, 339 Lacewood Drive Halifax, followed by a reception.
