Arthur John Crouse died suddenly on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the QEII Hospital with family by his side. He was born in Lunenburg on February 14, 1926, the youngest son of John Clayton and Hilda Blanche Crouse. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia (nee Walters), Halifax, and four of his children: Joanne (Andy Paulsen) of Cambridge, ON, Catherine (Jim Casey), Michael (Heather), and Thomas (Jen Sewell), all of the greater Halifax. He is predeceased by one daughter, Barbara (Stephen Spearns), by his brothers Basil (Christine) and Lawrence (Evelyn), his sister Elizabeth (Marshall Conrad), and nephew David Conrad. Also mourning his passing are 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, sister In-law Jean Crouse, and several nieces and nephews.
Art’s life was centred on family and faith; along with a strong vocational calling as a responsible chemical engineer, paying specific attention to environmental concerns. He served his country in WWII, served his Lord through various ministries at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Halifax, in regional and national expressions of the church, and in its camp at Lake Mush a Mush, as well as a lifelong involvement with Scouting. He had an artistic streak which resulted in many lovely paintings of familiar scenes and sites in Nova Scotia as well as wood carvings that he made lovingly for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed working and relaxing at the cottage he built in Lunenburg County.
The family will receive friends at the J. A. Snow Funeral Home , 339 Lacewood Drive, on Thursday, April 12 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 2096 Windsor Street on Friday, April 13, at 2:00 pm with a time of refreshment, remembrance, and fellowship to follow. Cremation will follow with interment of ashes at Hillcrest Cemetery in Lunenburg at a future date.
The family would like to thank staff at Melville Heights, QEII, Drummond Hall, and Pastor Kimber for their care and support. Donations can be made to the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection or Lutheran Camp Mush-A-Mush.
