At 97, Audrey Verna Power (Keddy) peacefully went home to be with her Lord on March 16th, 2021. Born on September 25, 1923 in Halifax. she was a daughter of Percy and Maude (Wilneff) Keddy. Predeceased by her parents, her husband Stanley, and her siblings Floyd, Dorothy, Donald, and Dale. Survived by her brother Wayne (Bonnie), sister-in-law Donna (who she lived her last ten years with) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Audrey was a dedicated teacher and lifelong student. After earning her teaching certification in Truro, she furthered her education at Saint Mary's, Columbia and Dalhousie Universities. Audrey began her extraordinary career, just as learning facilities for children with special needs were being introduced into the Halifax school system. Her service in this field encompassed work as a classroom teacher, supervisor of special education for the Halifax School Board, and in training other teachers at the NS teacher's summer school auxiliary block program. Audrey was passionate about her students and near the end of her career, kept deferring retirement by "just one more year" to keep doing what she loved. She talked about her students long after she retired.
One of Audrey's special interests was her work with the Nova Scotia IODE, of which she had the honour of being president from (1984-1987). She was an active member of West End Baptist Church where she participated on numerous boards, committees and initiatives. She was a lifetime member of The Women's Missionary Society.
Audrey loved to travel across Canada with both her volunteer work and to visit family and friends. She had fond memories of her world wide travels with her lifelong friend Molly. Audrey and Stanley spent their summers in Halifax and Spry Bay and wintered in Florida. She was an avid knitter sharing this with her family and friends and many local causes. She was a gracious hostess and a loyal person to all. Never one to complain, even at the height of her illness, Audrey always answered the question "how are you doing?" with the reply "every day is a blessing from God”. Audrey herself was a blessing to those who knew her. Audrey lived a full and dignified life committed to the service of God and others.
Audrey's family wish to extend sincere thanks to the amazing caregivers from Closing the Gap Healthcare who gave consistent and compassionate care over the last four years. In memory of Audrey, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or charity of your choice.
