PERRY (Purcell), Barbara Ann ~ 64, passed away on March 26, 2021, peacefully with her family after a valiant battle with metastatic melanoma brain cancer. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Ruth (Hennessey) Purcell. She is survived by her daughters Nalani, Jennifer and Laura; and grandchildren, Lily, Maia and Theodore.
Barb worked at the QEII Hospital in the Cardiology Division for 34 years. An advocate for children’s health care, Barb was an avid volunteer for the IWK Auxiliary and IWK Kermesse & Telethon. She was a dedicated member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Church Women’s League, and provided communion to shut-ins throughout the community. As well, she sewed all of the Christmas Pageant costumes for the annual parish enactment of the nativity.
Barb was passionate about gardening, cooking and sewing. She was always busy making jams, quilting, sewing, smocking, knitting and was a talented felt artist. Her deep affection of English gardens led her to creating one of her own which she loved to augment and care for to the admiration of her community. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren who brought her much happiness. She will be deeply missed, and forever remembered by her family and friends.
The family will be receiving family and friends at J.A. Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on, Thursday, April 1st, from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. Private burial to follow. Special thanks to the radiation and medical oncologists (Dr. Liam Mulroy and Dr. Robyn MacFarlane - NS Cancer Center), and nurses of the VG Hospital (ward 5A) for the extra care and attention she received.
Donations may be made to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation; specifically, Dr. Carman Giacomantonio’s clinical trials with immunotherapy for melanoma.
