

Heisler, Bernard(Bernie)Neil-85, passed away on August 7, 2015 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary Site after battling multiple health challenges. Born on Big Tancook Island, August 2, 1930, he was the elder son of the late Morris and Maud (Crooks) Heisler.
He was predeceased by brother, Denvert. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Iola (Jennex), sister, Pauline (Andrew) Levy, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bernie enjoyed life for several years on the Island as an inshore, sword and seal fisherman. For some five years he worked at C.G.E. in Montreal, returning to NS where he worked installing forced warm air heating equipment until his trade ended after a construction accident at age 54. Bernie enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter. He was a member of Halifax Wildlife, Ducks Unlimited and Canadian Wildlife Federation.
Bernie accepted the Lord as his personal saviour and was baptized as a teenager and joined the Big Tancook United Baptist Church. He transferred his membership to Mulgrave Park United Baptist Church when he relocated to Halifax. He was actively involved in his Church. He was also an adherent of Sheffield Baptist Church for over twenty years.
Visiting will take place in JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Hfx on Monday, Aug. 10 from 6-8pm. Funeral service will be held in Sheffield Baptist Church on Tues. Aug. 11 at 10:30am with Rev. Dr. John Donkin, Rev. Leo Fletcher and Rev. Carl Price officiating. A reception will be held in the Church Hall following the funeral service. Burial will take place in Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
