My condolences to all Brant's family even though we've never met. I was a friend of Brant all during our years at St.Thomas but had lost touch and was only now looking him up to say hi.I wish I would of done this earlier but Brant was truly one of the nicest guys even back then.

I was very shocked to hear of the passing of Brant. I attended St. Thomas University during the 1970's and there were a number of us who became good friends. Like many of the students at that time, we had no idea where we were headed or what life would bring to us. I'm pleased to hear that Brant had such a loving family and made a positive contribution to his community. Please accept my sincere condolences.

I had hoped to see Brant again when I returned from my vacation but it was not to be. I take comfort in knowing that the day Brant died I was in Santorini where he and Gaye and my husband Brian and I spent a wonderful vacation together over 10 years ago.I was thinking of the super time we had together and spent the rest of my vacation blissfully unaware that the world had changed and my dear friend was no longer with us. I will always remember from that earlier trip that for a Planner he had a pretty awful sense of direction and was completely incapable of reading a map which caused us great amusement and the fun of being lost. Brant will be missed by us more than I can put into words. Gaye, please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your much loved partner. Jess and Ali - your Dad was a super guy and loved you both so much, you made him very proud and we're thinking of you at this difficult time. Try to take comfort in knowing that your Dad was much loved and will be missed by many.

My deepest condolences to Brant's family and friends.  
Brant was my colleague from "the other coast".  He was smart, practical, thoughtful, dedicated and funny.  Without fail, as I would join a cross-Canada conference call of P/T officials already in progress (since it was 6 a.m. BC time!), Brant would ask if I had by coffee, robe and slippers...
Even though I rarely saw him in person, he was always present, always the one we turned to for the way forward or the middle ground on a tough P/T problem.  And now he isn't there -- and the world is diminshed because of it.  But the memories and his legacy of service live on.
Brant, thank you; you fought the good fight.  And my pink fuzzy slippers are now permanently retired.

I was saddened to hear of Brant's passing. I have many fond memories as a kid from grade school to high school and university with Brant. Although we lost touch over the years I know when I saw him last he was so proud of his family and “his girls”. Gaye when he met you, I remember him telling me how lucky he was. I can only imagine how you feel Gabby. To me he was a friend and a man of great good sense and humour. In our early days in the planning world he was a brother in arms and a natural leader. I know how much he loved you and the kids. And we all loved him right back. I had the good fortune on one trip through Toronto airport to have been placed in a head lock and given a noogie by Brant as he was running off to catch a plane to some intra provincial meeting while I was heading to another. He will be missed.

Rhonda and Joanne, I am so sorry to hear of Brants passing. Although quiet, you always had to listen so as not to miss his wit. He will be missed by many. Hugs to you both.

We were very saddened to read of Brant's passing. We met Brant the year we coached Ali on the Nova Scotia U19 (Belle) Host Ringette team when the National Ringette Championships were held in Halifax. Brant was always a very supportive parent and in the years since always smiled and took the time to have a conversation when our paths crossed. He was a wonderful person. Brant was a man in full. A man's man who could foster meaningful friendships with women too - a rare quality. He worked hard at creating "moments" in his life and it worked, for we are left with a lifetime of them to cherish. You taught me so much just by how you lived your life. I am very sorry to hear of Brant's passing.  Brant was my professor in the early '90s at TUNS and later a constant source of knowledge and leadership for me in the planning field.  Countless times I called him for advice on work I was doing in Amherst, while I know he had more important things to do at the time, he always answered the phone with a chuckle and a joke.  While most people will never know, Brant has had a profoundly positive effect on the Town of Amherst and County of Cumberland over the last 15 years.  For me the highlight of every planning conference or planning directors AGM was having a beer with Brant in the hospitality room!  In more recent years the most common question among the planning directors before any planning 'event' would be "Is Brant coming?".  We all loved his infectious personality - he could light up a room for sure.  My thoughts and prayers at this time are with Brant and his family, whom he always spoke very highly of.  God bless you.

Condolences from the Casey family.  Brant was a good friend for many years when we lived in Rockingham.  I enjoyed many years of driving to work with Brant and the fact that we both liked listening to the 'Q'. Great dry wit, and wide ranging conversations were the norm.

I was fortunate to become a coworker of Brant's when he joined what was then the Dept. of Municipal Affairs and always enjoyed his company and advice during the remainder of my time in that department. We always had a number of standing lines to use with each other, me laughing at his devotion to the person (Lois, I believe) who cut his hair at Kara's; and him always commenting on how Masters weekend was my high holy days when I could not possibly be disturbed. We encountered each other occasionally in more recent years but the warmth and friendship always remained. My deepest condolences to his family and friends for losing someone far too soon. Brant was a quality guy, the kind of which you encounter far too infrequently.

I immediately took to Brant because of his wicked sense of humour and how he made the work at the officials level so fun. At the same time, he brought expertise, insight, pragmatism, creativity and focus to our work. But you never knew you were working because it was Brant. He had a way of stepping over differences to find the commonality, he also had a way of finding the ridiculous and ensuring everyone took the time to appreciate a good laugh.  

When I learned he was sick earlier this year, I wrote to him, and he wrote me back a positive, forward-looking email all about getting through the illness and being on the mend, and come by for a beer if I was ever around Halifax. Typical Brant. He made an impact on colleagues across the country and, even though I hadn't worked with him since 2010 given portfolio changes, I feel the loss and will miss him considerably.   Deepest condolences to Gaye, Jessica and Ali and the entire family, we lost a good one.
