Catherine Patricia Ainsworth

On February 12, 2016, a very loving and kind heart stopped beating when our wonderful mother, Catherine Patricia Ainsworth age 85, of Halifax passed away. She was surrounded by her family as we laughed and cried while sharing favourite memories of her life truly lived and shared.

Mom was born in Halifax, and grew up on Merkel Place, and was the daughter of the late Eric and Bridget (Fleming) Darrach. In 1952 Mom married her one true love Gil Ainsworth and together they made a fun and loving home for their three children, Tim, Sharon and Coleen. Cathy was a loyal and caring wife and devoted mother and grandmother. Her family and children were the centre of her life and she was so very proud of every one of them. Cathy treasured every minute spent with her family, Tim, (Daughter in law Janice), Sharon (Son in Law John) and Coleen and her two grandchildren Sarah (husband Pieter) and Jason. Mom was always interested in everything about our lives from our jobs to hobbies and our friendships. She took time with all of us and we knew we were loved in that wonderful unconditional way that was so precious.

Mom also had many true friends of all ages and was known for her trusted confidences and was always great company. She was always game to try new things at any age and never lost that zest for life and being with people. She joined in on the IPad trend at the age of 82 and was always learning new techniques.

Mom had many talents and was well known as an artist in her circles and loved to paint canvas and any other items to add that flair to all of our surroundings. Wherever she was living she made friends by donating to many causes and surprising friends by sharing her art work. She loved music especially the oldies and spent Friday nights singing along at the Friday Night Prospect Road Jammers.

Mom had a great talent for home decorating and was always up for helping to rearrange any of her friends and family’s’ furniture and art work. She maintained a beautiful garden for many years with her husband Gil and prepared countless meals for her family to gather and have fun.

We will miss her loving guidance and wisdom but will forever cherish the times we have spent with her.

Mom was predeceased by her parents: Eric and Bridget Darrach: Brothers Alan (Gerry Sister in Law), Norman, John and Sister in Law Mary. She is survived by her son Tim (Janice), daughters Sharon (John) and Coleen; grandchildren Sarah (Pieter) and Jason; and Brother Vince Darrach, nieces and nephews and her many friends and neighbors.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Snows Funeral Home on 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax, where a visitation will be held on Saturday February 20, 2016 at 11:00 pm followed by a reception at 12:00 and the Service at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Oakridge Memorial Gardens on 1078 Old Sackville Road. Donations in memory of Mom (Catherine) may be made to the Cancer Society.
