

Reardon, Charles Francis, P.Eng., age 96 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 17th, 2017. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Frank and Maud (Balcom) Reardon. He married the love of his life Marie in 1947 and together they raised seven children. Dad was a devout Catholic and actively involved within the community.
Family meant everything to Dad and he devoted countless hours to his children, supporting them in each of their endeavors. He was a very generous and kind man, always thinking of those less fortunate. He dedicated many hours to several charitable organizations. He was a member of Ashburn Golf Club, Palm Aire Country Club, The Saraguay and Waegwoltic Club. Dad and Mom loved their home away from home in Sarasota, Florida; golfing and socializing with their many friends who were also like family.
Dad graduated from St. Mary’s College and Nova Scotia Technical College where he earned his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree in 1953. He worked for both the federal and provincial governments with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, Department of Highways and Public Works, Planning Engineer, Municipality of the County of Halifax and retired from the Department of the Environment.
Charlie is survived by his children, Joanne (Mel) Weber, Basil, Nancy, Gregory, and Elaine (Steve) Coyle and son-in-law Russell Smith. Grandchildren Matthew (Lise) Smith, Judy (Alex) Dunlop, Carolyn (Glen) Smith, Brent (Karuna) Smith, Reece Reardon, Kirt and Mara Aihoshi, Jamie MacKenzie, Morgan and Sean Coyle; and 5 great grandchildren. Brother, Kenneth Reardon Sr. and sister-in-law Frances Moriarty. He was predeceased by his loving wife Marie, daughter Elizabeth “Betty” Reardon-Smith, son Danny Reardon, brother Henry Reardon, sister Marion McCann and nine half brothers and sisters.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to his wonderful caregivers the past few years with special thanks to Barbara Farrah for her support, friendship and that extra special care she gave to our father.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 23rd at 10am in Saint Thomas Aquinas Church, Oxford Street, Halifax. Private interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to CNIB or the Canadian Cancer Society.
