Dale Edgar Bancroft

A WELL-KNOWN LOCAL RETAIL GASOLINE DEALER HAS PASSED AWAY

Bancroft, Dale Edgar, age 68 of Oakfield, passed away peacefully at home in Oakfield with his family at his side after a lengthy battle with cancer. For the past 21 years Dale, along with his son Robert, was a prominent Retail Gas Dealer and actively involved in the daily operations of Bancroft’s Company Ltd. After running Gulf, Irving, and Esso Stations locally for 20 years, Dale enjoyed working with Shell the most. He was past President of The Retail Gasoline Dealers Association. Dale was recognized as Top Dealer for the Maritimes for 6 consecutive years and Shell awarded Dale many trips for his dedicated service. In 2008, Dale was honoured at Shell’s “Smiling Stars Awards Dinner” in Toronto as one of the Top Stations globally. Over the years Dale enjoyed soapbox racing and hockey with his son Robert, snowmobiling, boating, and water skiing, and was a member of the GLYC. In the 60’s Dale worked at Simpsons for 10 years as Assistant Manager of Sporting Goods. Dale was always very meticulous with his appearance and loved being a fashion statement.

Dale was the son of the late Ann & Wyman Bancroft. Left with fond and loving memories are his supporting and dedicated wife of 41 years, Elena (Roberts) ; son Robert (Deanna Jazic), Dartmouth; brothers, Gregory (Barbara), Spryfield and Brian (Janeen), Mississauga along with five nieces and nephews, Jamie, Scott, Kimberly-Ann, Jennifer, Melissa and step-mother Mary Bancroft, Shubenacadie. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (455-0531). A Celebration of Dale’s life will take place at First Baptist Church, 1839 Hammonds Plains Road, officiated by the Reverend Shant Manuel on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 1:00 pm with reception following in the lower church hall. A private family interment will take place at First Baptist Cemetery following the service. Family flowers only. During Dale’s illness the VON provided 4 ½ years of dedicated care and support and the family would like to extend special thanks to nurses Angela, Susan and Jill for their daily and excellent care. Special thanks to private nurse Sharron Paattinen who never left our sides and nursed Dale to the end. Also a special thank you to Jim & Brenda Johnston, Don & Violet Shaw, Gloria Coughlan, Nora & Jack Eisner, Debbie Haverstock, Marion McKinnon, Gloria Barter and Dr. Dave Andrews, and many caring and close friends and neighbours in Oakfield who assisted when needed with food, phone calls, and support.
