It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Daniel James MacDonald at the age of 87. He resided mainly on King Street in North Sydney, Nova Scotia where he spent most of his years, and more recently Halifax to be closer to family.
Dan was a very loving husband, father, brother, son, friend and well-respected member of the community. He deeply loved his wife and family and always stated that this was the most important thing in life. He was extremely passionate about music and turned this into a career as a high school band/music teacher at Memorial High school in Sydney Mines, where he enriched the lives of so many students until his retirement in 1994. He could play any instrument, but the violin was his passion, which he turned into private lessons furthering his reach and impact on the music community in Cape Breton. When Dan played the violin, he evoked immense emotions for all that had the pleasure to hear him. Beyond his career and playing the violin, Dan loved the simple things in life, especially dancing with his wife, Linda. His big presence and gentle way will be deeply missed.
Born May 20, 1938, to the late Professor James and Regis (Long) MacDonald. He is survived by wife Linda (Power); children Sean (Tracey), Lisa (Sam), Robert (Robin), and Tracie (Jose). grandchildren Riley, Aidan, Dominque, Cole and Shane; great grand children Cadence and Cooper; brothers George (Cecilia), Cyril (Marlene), and James; sisters Patsy (Peter) and Janet (Ken). He was predeceased by daughter and forever angel, Tobie.
We would like to acknowledge the staff at London Hall in Bedford for the great and compassionate care he received over the last 6 months.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday March 21st from 2-5pm at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. For anyone who would like to be present, there will be prayers said at 2:30 pm.
