

Hickey,David Richard - age 58, of Halifax passed away peacefully at the QE II VG Palliative Care unit on December 25th, 2010 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Tyrill Gregory and Mary Elizabeth (MacDonald) Hickey. Dave was a devoted husband, loving father, and recent grandfather who lived his life to the fullest. He shared his kindness, cheerful attitude and loyal companionship with family and friends. Dave graduated from JL Ilsley, and attended various programs with Air Cadets, NASCAD but focused on a career in music, upholstery and marine fabrication. After many years of working for Ace Upholstery and Maritime Canvas, his talents helped Dave establish his own business, DRH Canvas and Marine Ltd. He had many certifications recognizing Dave as the only qualified marine fabricator and a successful leader in this industry. Dave’s musical career sprouted at a young age. Alongside his childhood friends, Bob Dooley, Don Moore and John Ferguson, he was a successful musician and member of the well-known Nova Scotia band, McGinty for 33 years. Dave’s extremely active life included the restoration of his cottage-on-water, Sally Brown docked at the Armdale Yacht Club (AYC) for many years. Dave has been an active member of AYC for over 30 years, participated on numerous committees and played a major role in establishing food and beverage services offered at the club. His nautical passion included instructing courses and was an active bridge member of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron. After spending countless years of fine dining with friends and family at AYC, Dave developed a passion for gourmet cooking. Dave also enjoyed diving, archery and darts. Dave will forever be remembered by his loving wife, Janice Cook, daughter, Angela Maureen Hickey, Halifax; sons, Shawn Anthony Hickey (Jessica Harper and granddaughter, MacKenzie), Halifax; Devon Andrew Hickey (Julie Lee), British Columbia, and Brendan Travis Hickey, British Columbia. Sisters, Barb (Ned) DuVall, Ohio;Sharron (Bill) Walker, Ontario; Claudia (Rick) Risk, Halifax; Janet (Lane) Collins, Halifax; brothers, Bob (Carolyn-Lee) Hickey, Tantallon; Greg (Karen) Hickey, Tantallon; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters Maureen Helen, Jean and Joyce. Visitation will be held on December 29th from 6-8 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home (Lacewood location) followed by a celebration of his life at J.A. Snow Funeral Home on December 30th at 2 pm.
