Today I opened up the newspaper to discover an article about a new Manager at the Mayflower Curling club. Only to discover that this person is replacing my friend David. I was shocked to find out that David had passed and that I had not known about it. How could I have not seen this. I grew up living across the street from David for only 2 years, 1967-68 on Evans Ave., Fairview. These were 2 of my best years of my life, mainly because David had become my best friend. I got to know his father, mother, sisters Candy and Amber well. David, was only a couple of months older than me but because of when he was born, was a year ahead of me in school. David and I shared many of the same interests at this age. One adventure was the building of a go-cart that he and I spent many hours working on in his basement. His dad wanted to help but David wanted us to do this on our own. We also created our own soccer league, played in his back yard, from team logos to uniforms we made up ourselves.. 
These 2 years were a tough time for me, for my parents split and forced us to move to Fairview from Bedford and start a new life. David's friendship helped me through this. He was a special friend. I looked up to him. We eventually moved to Kentville and kept in touch visiting back and forth for a time and ran into each other now and again over the years.I regret not keeping in touch with him more often. I followed him through his curling and was proud of his achievements. I also wish our families had met. I have 2 girls and a boy and 1 grandson. 
As I look back over my life I consider David as one of those people that helped make me to be what I am today. He will always have a special place in my heart and I will never forget him. So sorry for your lose. His friend always John Kemp, Manager of Museum of Natural History.

There are not enough words that can be written about "Dave Jones". Most Nova Scotia curlers have experienced his amazing ice making talent, his knowledge as a curling supplies dealer and as a helpful friend. Dear Sherry, Amanda, & Derek. I've known Dave for over 35 years and will always remember him as a kind and friendly man. Dave's passing caught me off guard because he is someone who I always respected and admired. I know that Dave is a BIG reason why I love the game of curling. He did however leave his legacy behind--one that is irreplaceable. Dave will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched on and off the ice. I'll miss you dearly, Dave.

I was so sorry to hear of Dave's untimely passing.  He was truly one of the good guys in the sport of curling.  I worked as a fellow club manager in the Halifax area for nearly a decade, and throughout that time always looked up to Dave.  He had a wonderful rapport with his members, and genuinely cared about the quality of their curing experience.  

Although I have been working at a club in Edmonton since 2005, I have often thought of Dave and have wondered how he might approach a particular problem or issue that I was facing at the time.  He was an outstanding club manager, and someone who will be greatly missed by his members and by everyone who knew him. As a member of the runner-up team in 1992 Tankard, it was an honor to just be on the ice to see Dave get his purple heart. Dave put his whole heart into getting to that point in his curling career. To the Jones family: 

One of my old curling buddies from Mayflower sent me this sad news yesterday.  I spent many hours at Mayflower both as a curler and a volunteer and organizer for Little Rocks.  Dave's calm, steady demeanor and his quiet smiling charm were always present.  He was a fine individual and always fondly spoken of by me as I curled in elsewhere in Canada and the US.

I last saw Dave at a 2004 soccer tournament in PEI with his family- where his daughter and my daughter Gloria were on opposite teams.  We joked fondly about some of the 'going-ons' at Mayflower.

I thought about Dave this year at the Brier in Edmonton as I watched the ice-makers in the morning.  

My deepest sympathy is with your immediate and extended family.  Dave's passing will create a huge void at home, at Mayflower, in the community and in the hearts of all of us who were lucky enough to cross paths with this fine man.

I will never forget the awesome sail to Halifax I had with Dave and Derek (including the escort by a friendly whale)...it was truly a glorious day. May you rest in peace Dave.

I have worked on large building projects for curling in Miramichi and Moncton. Dave was frequently helpful as a resource  for our business plans. I think of Dave and the Mayflower Club as one of the first examples in our Region to try  a " business approach" for operating a curling facility. There must  have been some difficult times in the transition. Dave and that Club are generally thought to have been successful. I suspect that Dave's temperment was key to this success. When you are one of the first it is terribly important to have a measure of success as an example to those that follow. Well done!
