It is with broken hearts that we announce the tragic passing of David (Dave) on Sunday, June 9th, 2013. Born in Halifax on August 31, 1954, he is the son of the late Jack and Joyce (McGrath) Jones. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Sherry; his daughter, Amanda; son, Derek; his sisters, Candy and Amber; his Aunts Margaret Blumsum and Jane McGrath; Mother and Father-in-law, Helen and Fred Jackson; 5 sister-in-laws, 1 brother-in-law,16 nieces and nephews and one great nephew as well as cousins and extended family.
Dave was known far and wide for his involvement in the sport of curling. His love of the sport began in his late teens at CFB Halifax Curling Club where he won 3 Provincial championships and went on to represent Nova Scotia at the Brier, the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships and won the Canadian Legion championships.
Curling later became his profession when he became the Manager and ice maker at the Mayflower Curling Club. He was very well respected in the curling world and became known for his ice making expertise within the Province. His close friends and family will sorely miss his calm, quiet gentle demeanour, his dry sense of humour and wit. We will all fondly remember him for a story or a witty line delivered at just the right moment with a smile.
His life dream was to own a boat which became a reality in 2005 enabling him to spend time on the water. It was on the shores of his beloved Blind Bay home that he passed away while scuba diving.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the first responders. Visitation will take place Thursday, June 13 from 6-8 pm with a memorial service on Friday, June 14 at 2 pm in J A Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Drive, reception to follow at Mayflower Curling Club on Monaghan Drive. Family flowers only please; donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Mayflower Junior Curling Program.
