To The Marsh Family,
We were saddened to read about Dave’s passing. He sold us our home 14 years ago. To this day, we love to tell the story of how Dave passed his family home onto our family. We learned from a neighbor that Dave was considering selling the house, and my husband Bill left a note in his mailbox. Dave called him that same night, learned of our Cape Breton origins, and for the next three years, they chatted on and off until Dave was ready to sell. We have cherished this home ever since.

So sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. I worked with David on board Coast Guard vessels, at the College and in Maritimes Region HQ.  He was a wonderful person to work with and just to be around.  Alyce and I are sorry to have missed his celebration of life at the Chiefs Mess this afertnoon but we will hold him in our thoughts for years to come.

Sorry for your loss, Pat and family.  I worked with Dave in Coast Guard Technical Services and Dave had that very rare gift of being a smart manager,  excellent boss and a good friend.  He'll be sorely missed by all that knew him.

I’d like to express my sincere condolences to Dave’s family on his passing.  

Dave was part of the interview team that hired me into DSS in 1990, setting me onto a career path for which I am very grateful. Over the years, I had the privilege of working directly with Dave as well as indirectly with him through the team he built in Dartmouth.  His leadership was clear, he was generous with his time, fair in how he dealt with his staff as well as with clients and industry and his legacy continues through all of the people he mentored and guided.  

I feel very fortunate to have known and worked with Dave throughout my career.   He will be missed.

I met and worked with Dave in the 90's at DSS/SSC, and appreciated all of the insight and help he offered me, a  relatively new employee at that time. In my work career I tried to emulate many of his traits into my own day to day demeanor. I feel he gave me more than I could ever repay ... RIP my friend.

Dear Pat and family,  I would like to express my deepest sympathies to you.  I had  the honour of working closely with Dave for eight years at CCG and will remember that time as Marine Engineering golden age.  Dave was a real renaissance man: blessed with a brilliant technical mind but could also make a beautiful drop of wine.  However, he was more than that.  His warmth, humour and leadership raised our group's morale to new heights.  I will always remember Dave as a valued friend.

Dave I've always enjoyed our conversations about history, about engineering of how things worked in the coastguard as that was your passion.  I've enjoy our time together the last week we have spent while pat was in Ottawa being there for her granddaughters graduation . I know there's a huge family reunion on the other side. Now you can rest easy, as you know that your living family on this side of life will always have the strength and love that you have shown them. That was because of the man and father that you were to them .  Your grandchildren will carry on your spirit, love, and compassion.  As that was instilled by your daughters, through you! ♥   enjoy your family reunion Dave, as you have done with pat while here upon earth . Salute to a life well lived !

I worked with Dave in the Canadian  Coast Guard, my husband, Jim, worked with him in the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.  He was always a kind and gentle man.

Dear Pat, Allie, Gail and David's family,

I am saddened to hear of David's passing and send my condolences. I am a first cousin. My father, Coady Marsh, was David's uncle. Although we spent time as children with David  Marty, Fonce, and Allie in Reserve snd Glace Bay  I hadn't seen David in years until the Marsh Family Reunion a few years ago in Mira. It was great to reconnect and  meet his lovely wife, Pat. I also visited David and Pat at their condo at the Royalton. I live in a condo not too far away. Turns out we were both Treasurers of our condo Boards. David had an illustrious career, of which he was very proud. He will be missed. May he rest in peace 🙏.

Dave was such a nice man and neighbor. It was always a pleasure to see him around and I so enjoyed chairing the social committee with him and Larry at The Royalton. I remember little Cassie and how he adored his sweet dog. My condolences to you Pat and to the whole family. Big hugs!

So sorry to hear of Uncle Dave’s passing. Dave was such a nice man that cared deeply for his family. Dave always made sure to stay in touch with Linda’s family after her passing, first with my mom for almost 20 years and then with me for the bi monthly phone calls to catch up. During our calls Dave always spoke about so highly of  his girls, the grandkids and Pat. I could always tell he was a very happy man hearing about  his great attitude and positive outlook on life not to mention a great sense of humour. He always made sure to ask how my Dad and siblings are doing as well. 
 I can remember all the fun times when they lived in Scarborough during the mid 80’s as our families spent lots of time together. 
 Rest in peace Uncle Dave, you will be greatly missed but never forgotten! I will sure miss our phone calls tho!

Dave was one of the best people, and bosses, I have ever worked with and for.   As Regional Manager of Inspection Services for DSS, he was always very Professional, and Considerate, and worked to ensure that those who sailed on Canadian Government ships had the best and safest ships possible.
I first worked for Dave starting in the mid 1980's , and continued to do so for more than a decade.  During that period we had many enjoyable times together, and I develped a great respect for him, both Professionally and as a considerate, intelligent, person.
I consider it a great privilege to have known Dave, and pass on my condolences to Patricia and his family.

I first met Dave mid 1998 for an interview to join CCG Marine Engineering, that day changed my life - he saw something in me that I  didn’t realize until later in my career, he was a true gentleman and a great mentor. 

Dave set me on an unbelievable career path with a great organization, something I am truly grateful for and will never truly be able to repay.

I try my best though, to live up to Dave’s image as much as possible, by taking every opportunity to repay his belief in me by doing the same for others, I know Dave  loved being able to pass along his wisdom and knowledge to whom ever needed it, hopefully I was able to do the same during my career,  don’t get me wrong, I know it’s just a small fraction of what Dave knew.

Dave was a good person to know, as a cadet several years senior to me but still  he was a warm and friendly person.  He never stopped being the same warm and friendly person and everyone that has ever worked with him will agree.  He was a respected and well liked Chief of Vessel Inspection for PWGSC when I later met up with him.  Then, as CCG Superintendent of Fleet Engineering he was very tolerant of the PWGSC marine contracting  rules that we were forced to represent. The marine world could benefit from having a few more Dave Marshes

He was an amazing uncle and was always there to talk about cadets with me always was there for every birthday. He will be missed by all

Pat, Nancy & Nicole, Bernie and I cannot begin to tell you how much  David (and Pat) meant/mean to us. The 4 of us were always there for each other in good times and difficult one's.

We loved Dave dearly and will miss him more than words can say.

Dave was such  a loving man, friends and family meant everything to him.  

He loved spending time with Jenny and she loved him so much...her Uncle Dave she would say

The most important gift anyone could give him was their time spent with him, he loved and treasured that above all.

He will be remembered with great love!
