Born June 30, 1958 in Halifax, Nova Scotia to the late Commodore Bruce Sidney Culverwell Oland and Ruth (Hurley) Oland.
She took her early education at the Halifax Ladies College before attending the NS Youth Training Centre at Truro NS from age 8 to 16. On returning from Truro, Deborah became a client of Regional Residential Services Society (RRSS), living in several of their small option group homes over the course of her adult life. Deborah has worked at DASC Industries in Burnside, the Dartmouth YMCA, RRSS Office and the Micmac Beverage Room.
Deborah has been a great joy to all who have lived and worked with her. The grace, dignity and joy she carried throughout the entirety of her life has won her the admiration, love and respect of all who have come in contact with her. A caring and devoted daughter, sister and aunt she was the light of her family and an inspiration.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Hurley Oland; sister-in-law, Barbara Oland (Kapteyn); nephews, Keith and Eric Oland; and niece, Heather Oland. She was predeceased by an infant brother, Keith; her father, Bruce Oland; and her mother, Ruth Oland.
Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Regional Residential Services Society who have given a lifetime of caring, compassion and friendship to Deborah. Deborah’s life has been enriched by those around her and in turn she lived her life with a joy and a spark that we all loved.
