

Derek “Hoss” Mayne Watson C.D. (1) – age 78 of Halifax, passed away July 15, 2017 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Born on April 20, 1939 in Sarnia, Ont (Home of two Grey Cups). He was the son of the late Mayne and Adilene (Woverton).
Hoss is survived by loving wife Joan; son Jeff (Deborah) of King City, Ont; daughters Suzanne (Alan) Paré and Cindy (Jeff) Hiltz ; sister Nancy (Ron) Jensen of Terrace Bay, Ont; grandchildren Zachary, Connor, Trisha, Kristen, Elysia, Amanda, Timothy and Etienne; great grandchildren Isabelle and Kara-Lee.
Predeceased by his parents, brother David, first wife Gwen (Smart), and nephew Allan Jensen.
Served in the Royal Canadian Navy for more than 22 years (1956-1978) retiring as P.O.1 Served on various ships and bases, including R.M.C. (1966-1968) CFB Kingston 1976 Olympic staff (Olympic races Lake Ontario). Employed by Nova Scotia Correctional Services and Department of Justice (1979-1994).
Hoss played football for Stadacona and Shearwater (1959-1967). He was a member of the Masonic Order, past Master of Keith Lodge #17, a 32nd Degree member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and a Philae Shriner; Member of the Halifax RCN Association (Peregrine Club) and of the Atlantic Chief and P.O. Association.
Donation in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
