It is with deep love and sorrow that the family of Diana Shirley Goodwin (née Fong) announces her passing on September 11, 2025, at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the age of 66.
Born on May 18, 1959, in Halifax, Diana was the beloved daughter of Sharon Tuen Fong and the late Dow Wing Fong.
Diana is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Brent, and her cherished sons, Colin (Lisa) and Jasper (Breanne), both of Halifax. She was the proud and devoted grandmother of Rhodes, Ophelia, Georgia, and Rupert.
She will be deeply missed by her siblings: Greg (Trudy), Lisa (Glenn), Angela, Susan (Juha-Pekka “JP”), and Benjamin. Diana also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Diana lived a life defined by kindness, warmth, and love. She found joy in supporting others and always chose to see the brighter side of every moment. After graduating from Queen Elizabeth High School, she began her career in hospitality at the Delta Barrington Hotel in Halifax, where she also met Brent, the love of her life. Her ability to connect with people, combined with her determination and her radiant personality, shaped a successful career in guest services and sales. Later, she transitioned into education, instructing at Eastern College, and, for a decade, building a distinguished and impactful career with the Dalhousie University Faculty of Management, where she was affectionately known as the “heartbeat” of her team and a supportive presence for students.
Alongside her career, Diana was building what she valued most, her family. Raising her two sons in Rockingham, she was a devoted and nurturing mother, always present and supportive in their lives. She created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unconditional love - values that continue to shape her family today.
Those who knew Diana will remember her unwavering positivity, her ability to live fully in the present moment, and her joyful spirit that always sought out laughter and fun. She loved to travel - whether a weekend getaway, international trip, or a simple day adventure - and she was always the life of the party, often lovingly referred to as “Princess Diana” amongst her closest friends, “The Enhancers”. Beyond being an exemplary mother, Diana was also a true and loyal friend. She cultivated deep, lasting friendships that became an extension of her family, surrounding herself with people who cherished her as much as she cherished them. Her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by the friends and family she loved most.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 20th, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and share memories of Diana’s remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Diana’s memory may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
Her legacy of love, care, and joy will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
