Donna grew up in the North End of Halifax and worked as a child care provider for a family. She worked in the food industry briefly as well. Health issues shortened her work life, but Donna lived happily alone. She loved walking and taking the bus, using the public library and made connections with others. She had traveled to see her brother Allen in Alberta twice, enjoying her time with him. Donna loved cats and had four wonderful pets keep her company during her life.
Donna ended up in nursing care after losing a lower limb to Diabetes in 2020. She loved her transition to Parkland Shannex and made connections with staff and many residents. She was so happy there.
Donna loved kids and loved seeing her nephews and nieces in person and photos. Donna did not marry and was quite content. She gave her son up for adoption and through Adoption Records opening up years later, reconnected with Craig Gesner, she was thrilled to become part of his life and attended his wedding. Craig and Donna spent time together while she was still well enough to enjoy time together. She was very proud of Craig.
Donna is also survived by her four brothers Allen in Alberta, Bob in Fredericton with nephew Brandon and his family Ellie, Mason and Colton. Bill in Halifax with Susan, Sam and Madison, Andy and family in Halifax as well. Donna was predeceased by her parents Ronald and Blanche, brother Joseph around his birth, and her older Sister Florence.
Donna requested no visitation, a small family gathering and service. Cremation has taken place and burial at a later date.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Seton Way at Parkland, Optometrist Dr Hussain , Hematologist Dr Murphy and her team, the staff at Halifax Infirmary Hospital-Emergency care and 4.2 , EHS staff and Seniors Transit for care provided.
