Dorothy Anna "Dot" McCarthy

McCarthy, Dorothy Anna (Dot), age 92-Halifax, passed away on Fri. Sept. 24,2010 in the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late William and Edith(Wright)Grant. She was a member of St. John’s United Church and a Charter Member and Past Worthy Matron of Amethyst Chapter No. 28 O.E.S. Dot was an accomplished seamstress and knitter, donating many knitted items to the IWK/Grace Hospital. She is survived by her best friend and devoted husband of 68 years, Roy, daughter Janet Kirvan, Southampton, ON, grandchildren, Linda(Michael)Zweig, Toronto, ON, Robert((Natalie), Utopia, ON, Daniel(Christine), Ottawa, great-grandchildren, Sidney Zweig, Abigail, Megan and Emma Kirvan and a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Dot was predeceased by brother William Jr. and sisters Helen, Frances, Agnes, Margaret, Marion and Hilda”Babe”. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Hfx., where a memorial service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 at 2pm, Rev. Linda Yates officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dot may be made to the VON, St. John’s United Church or a charity of choice.
