

Rood (Cutcliffe), Edith Mae died peacefully on Saturday, June 7th, at Bissett Court, Dartmouth. Born September 20, 1917 in Fredericton, P.E.I . She was the daughter of John and Mae Cutcliffe. After finishing school, she moved to Sussex, N.B., where she was supervisor of catalogue sales for Eaton's, a position she held until 1943 when she joined the RCAF serving in Moncton and Halifax with the W.O. Rank of Corporal until the war ended. She married Eric, a retired merchant Navy Radio Officer in 1945. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed bingo, bowling, curling and golf. She was an active member of St. John’s United Church in Halifax and was involved with UCW for many years. When Eaton's opened their store in Halifax, she accepted the position of supervisor of catalogue sales, a position she held until the closing of Eaton's in 1976. At that time Edith and Eric sold their home in Halifax and moved to their cottage in West Petpeswick, Musquodoboit Harbour, living there in the summer and winter in Florida, and eventually an apartment in Halifax. While living in Musquodoboit Harbour, she attended St. John’s United and spent many years coordinating volunteers to serve at the annual supper in support of Twin Oaks Hospital and the Birches. Edith is survived by daughters Mardi (Frank) Cameron, Musquodoboit Harbour, Faye Miville, Sarasota, Florida; granddaughter, Jennifer (Chris) Poberezny; grandsons, Gregory (Megan) Toronto, Taylor Miville, Carter Miville, Sarasota; great granddaughters, Jannea Nickerson, Hailey Cameron, great grandson, Max Miville. She was predeceased by her husband, Eric, granddaughter Lauren Miville; brothers, Aubrey, Allie, Frank, Milton ,Horace; sisters, Myrtle, Hilda, Gladys and Adelma.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral service to be held in J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Monday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow with interment at St. John’s Cemetery, 6 Bedford Highway. Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour NS, BOJ 2L0.
