It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Edna Turner Marshall, at home in Halifax on April 27, 2016. Born in Montreal, April 15, 1937, she was a daughter of Vera (Simpson) and Arthur Turner.
She is survived by her husband Bernie Marshall, her children, Shirley (Maxwell) McCuaig, Doug (Mary DeLapp) Maxwell, David (Natasha Coallier) Brimacombe, step-daughter Mireille (Ross McLellan) Gravel McLellan, brother Stu (Kay) Turner, nephew Matthew (Kim Pearce) Turner and their children.
Edna’s great joy was her grandchildren, Kathleen, Kristina, Miranda and her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Kahlan and Autumn.
Edna started working as a telephone operator, and helped put together the Official Hotel and Resort Guide. She worked with Artec Canada, CIL and then retired from the Federal Government in the late 1990’s.
Prior to retiring she was an avid bowler, and a student of Bunka Shishu (Japanese Embroidery). She enjoyed and learned the art so well, that she went on to teach it. She was received aboard HMCS Montreal shortly after its commission to present the Captain with the ship’s crest. She made various ship crests for friends and Navy personnel. In 1992 she was approached by the Federal Government to create two crests for the Office of Canadian Immigration. She was so proud to have been asked. There are a number of her crests and pictures displayed around HRM, the Chief & P.O.’s crest at the Mess at Stadacona, praying hands at Fall River United Church and Vimy Legion. Friends, relatives and many other people were the recipients of her pictures over the years. She will be forever remembered for them.
Upon retiring, Edna moved to Halifax to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She became a member at various Legion locations, (Vimy, Fairview and Waverly). She was an Associate member of the Chief & P.O. Mess. She enjoyed several Red Hat groups over the years.
She was a kind and loving soul. She loved being the centre of attention and making people happy, either with her giving nature or being comical. She strove to make people sit up and notice her. One of her favourite passtimes was making videos with her granddaughter Miranda. One of her favourite places to have a good time and great laughs was the Halifax Feast Dinner Theatre, where all the staff knew her by name, making sure she had a good time.
She is going to be missed.
