Edwin Merton Harper

Eddie had a long and distinguished career in the life insurance industry until the age of 89. Maritime Life bestowed him with the honour of being their only independent broker in Atlantic Canada,

E M Harper Insurance Ltd., which is still in operation today.

The positive outlook and smile he had for everyone who crossed his path continued even after his stroke, especially towards his many friends at the Halifax Shopping Centre. He was a friend and mentor to many. He was known as “affable, loveable, easy-going Ed”.

He was an avid member of the Gaspers at Ashburn Golf Course, member of Northumberland Links Golf Club and Halifax Curling Club.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, who was the love of his life, his best friend and travelling companion for 63 years; his children Kim Harper Given, Sherri MacQuarrie (Ron), Kelly Fleming (Pat), Andrew Harper (Denise); grandchildren, Nathan, Cassandra (Brendan), Thomas, Jericho, Daniel, Haley (Mike), Bryan, James, Julia, Greg and Angus; great-grandchildren Layla, Peyton and Xavier; brother-in-law Bryan Macaulay (Ellen) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Vivian and infant son Bradford.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday May 25, 2017 at 10:00 am, St Agnes Church, 6903 Mumford Rd.
