

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Eleanor Ivanko on December 21,2025 of Halifax at the Palliative Care Unit at the VGH .
Born on November 9,1931 in Halifax to parents George and Arthemese Martell of L’Ardoise, Cape Breton.
Eleanor was a homemaker who dearly loved her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, knitting ( hundreds of Christmas stockings with names for the many families she loved ), sewing, reading, listening to music, watching her favorite cooking shows, a good mystery movie and her garden. She will be sadly missed by family, friends and neighbors.
Eleanor is survived by her children Christine (Warren) Algee, Michael Ivanko and Allan Ivanko. Her grandchildren David (Brianna) Algee, Michael Algee, Tara Ivanko, Holly (Cailum) Leck, Christopher (Conner) Ivanko and step- grand daughter Tammy Currie.
Several great grandchildren Kingsley, Cassius, Gunner, Keyth, Kaleb, Owen and Liam. By her sister Marie Morton and sister-in-law Emma Kodatsky and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Anthony(Tony) Ivanko, her parents George and Arthemese Martell and parents-in-law Anna Podrazil and Andrew Ivanko. Also her daughters -in- law Estella Ivanko and Vanda Ivanko. Predeceased by brothers Bill, Carman, Frank Martell and sisters Alice Curtis and Jean Shultz and brother-in-law Bill Ivanko.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Emergency Department NHI, 8.2 NHI and 7A Palliative Care Unit VGH for their wonderful care. We would also like to thank Ron Clarke for the many years of yard work he provided for Eleanor.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to JA Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive Halifax. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be on Tuesday December 30th at 11 am at Stella Maris Parish on Herring Cove Road with reception to follow in the church hall.
