Emma Doreen Parnell (Kenney)

Emma Doreen Parnell(Kenney) died peacefully in the early hours of Monday September 22, 2025.

She was born in Sydney, NS on September 13,1929 to parents Reginald Kenney and Margaret(Munro).

Predeceased by her husband , she loved and cared for Deb, Charles Desmond Parnell in sickness and health throughout his life.

She is survived by daughters Linda Foroughi, Dianne Dubowski and son David(Krista); brother James Kenney(Alma), sister Thelma Blinn, brother-in-law Maurice Berrigan and sister-in-law Vi Parnell; grandchildren Brian, Maria, Zachary, Emily, Jessie and Kirsten; great-grandchildren Max,Bella,Lachlan, Quinn and Finnley; many nieces and nephews who were dear to her as she was to them.

Doreen was predeceased by brother Lorne Kenney & sister Helen Berrigan, brother-in-law Gerald and sister-in-law Gladys Hemming.

Her 96 years were richly lived- full of love, kindness, positive influence, welcome, hospitality and inclusivity.

Following her graduation from the Halifax Secretarial College she became the Secretary to the Minister of Public Works. She loved typing and shorthand which she used throughout her life. After her marriage to “Debbie Darling” and the expected birth of her first child, she became a full time homemaker, devoted mother and later grandmother.

For 55 years their Seaforth Street home was the hub of love in the good times and the difficult. In the early years roomers were welcomed in to help stay afloat. These people became lifelong friends.

Her role as a sister, aunt, friend, neighbour, co-worker and St John's United Church member were essential parts of her world.

We would like to thank the care teams on Point Pleasant Way, Parkstone for their stellar care over the last 2 years and especially through the days, nights and hours of the last 2 weeks. We her children, offer the word “perfecto” - a favourite one of Mom's. It means deeply appreciated and well done.
