Florence Elizabeth (Terrio) Keeping

Born in Halifax on November 23, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ethel Terrio. She met the love her of life, Bert (Denny) Keeping, at age 13 whom she went on to marry in July 1957. They had four wonderful children together that they raised on Primrose St in Dartmouth. Fudgie and Denny spent 61 happy years together before his passing in 2018.

Fudgie spent much of her early life playing various sports, the most memorable being her time spent playing softball with the historic Brookfield Elkettes as a third baseman. Later in life, when her children were grown, she went on to coach women’s softball. She also coached basketball at John MacNeil School in Dartmouth for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays on tv. Fudgie worked for many years as the secretary at Saint Anthony’s Church, where she was an active member of the congregation, and was involved with and directed the choir. Fudgie lovingly cared for her older sister Marie who had MS, until Marie’s passing in 2012. Fudgie always enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her three grandchildren, whom she often babysat.

Besides her parents, Fudgie was predeceased by her loving husband Denny, her sisters Marie, Kathleen, and Ethel, and brothers Roy, Frederick and Reginald. She is survived by her children, Robert, Wendy (Peter Ellis), Donna (Robert Bonnar), and Stephen (Lyn Doering); grandchildren Nicole (Nicolas Vaslet), Matthieu, and Naomi (Brady); great grandchildren Avery and Austin Vaslet. She is also survived by her sisters Shirley (Stupar) and Helen Terrio, along with many nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the amazing staff at Oceanview Manor in Eastern Passage, where Fudgie lived and was lovingly cared for since 2014.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 7 from 6:00- 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday June 8 at 2:00 pm followed by a short reception. Both will take place at the J.A. Snow Funeral Home located at 339 Lacewood Drive in Halifax.
