Born in Halifax, NS, Frances was the daughter of the late George and Ada (Martin) Thibodeau of Church Point, NS. She is survived by her three children: Stephen (Lynda Scott), Janet (Barry Malcolm), and Paula (Dan Gooding), three grandchildren, Timothy (Liz Fee), Scott, and Melissa (Michael Palmer) and three great grandchildren: George, Charles, and Frederick. Her husband of 65 years, Harold and her only sister, Nora Chapman of Saskatoon, predeceased her.
As a young woman during the war years, she discovered the joy of exercise as she rode her bicycle to and from the dockyards to work as a secretary for the Federal Government. After marriage, she applied her sewing and knitting skills to make certain her babies, children, and grandchildren were always beautifully dressed and had their “badges” sewn on correctly. She loved sports as a participant and as an avid watcher. She had a love of bridge and while never distressed with a loss, she loved to come home and tell Harold about her hand and her latest slam. She was a lawn bowler and lawn bowling official, loved line dancing, writing limericks and poems, and being a brownie leader. She travelled to the senior games to play competitive bridge but ended up being the gold medal winner in cribbage. She was the recipient of the Sport Nova Scotia award in 1988.
She was fully engaged in life and loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She taught us those things that one cannot learn from books and we are better people for having been raised and cared for by her.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Melville Heights and particularly Lori for making her final home so warm. We also wish to thank the Palliative Care Team of the QEII, for their support so she could be in her own bed and comfortable at the end.
A service and reception will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, at 10 am. Private interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Heart and Stroke or Kidney foundations.
