It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Frances Amelia (Inkpen) Collier, age 95, on Friday February 7th, 2025, at St Vincent’s Nursing Home. She was just two weeks shy of her 96th birthday.
She leaves a legacy of love as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister and aunt.
Mom was born in Burin Bay Newfoundland on February 24th, 1929, to the late Frank and Udavilla Inkpen and was one of 7 children.
Mom left her native homeland, Newfoundland, at the age of 18 and ventured to Nova Scotia, where she met the love of her life, Peter Miles Collier, and together they had 47 years of happiness.
Mom is survived by her children; Peter, London Ontario, Barbara Baker, Halifax, Chester (Michelle), Montreal, David (Joan), Bedford, and Joan (Drew) Fraser, Pictou. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren who she adored, and they equally adored her in return. She is also survived by 2 sisters Leta Bursey (Nelson), Lewin’s Cove, Newfoundland, Phyllis Baker Epworth, Newfoundland, and sister in-law Edna Inkpen, Lewin’s Cove, Newfoundland. Mom was also gifted with many beautiful nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Peter Collier, 1997, her infant great-grandson Elijah Little, her sister and brother in-law; Joan Hodder and Dr D.G Hodder, her brother and sister in-law; David Inkpen and Rebecca (Becky), her brother Frank Inkpen, infant sister Shirley, her brother in-law Leroy Baker.
Everyone loved visiting nanny and were always welcomed with her delicious rolls and biscuits.
Mom was always a lot of fun. Mom had a large circle of lifelong friends, many who shared lots of laughter at her and dad’s cottage in New Ross. Mom and dad loved tending to their beautiful gardens on Cook Ave. that were always a showpiece. She and dad enjoyed Saturday night dances and card games always with a wonderful bed lunch to follow. She loved her bingo and especially enjoyed the ladies on the bingo bus trips, many who became lifelong friends.
Mom was very involved in her church as an active UCW member for many years and always had an arrangement of food going to the church. Dad's famous words were “Are we allowed to eat that?”.
Mom was very kind and generous and taught all her children to carry that legacy.
The Collier family would like to extend their sincere thanks for the amazing care mom received from the staff at St. Vincent’s Nursing home. We will always be grateful for the love, attention, and constant support they provided mom and the family.
There will be no visitation,. A celebration of life will take place at Hope United Church in Halifax on May 17th at 1pm. Donations can be made in moms' memory to Hope United Church, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or charity of your choice.
“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and forever dear.”
