Mae graduated from North Colchester High School, Tatamagouche and then started her career with Nova Scotia Power Commission where she met her soulmate at a dance at the Carpenter’s Hall on Gottingen Street. Frank swept Mae off her feet that first night and a few years later, along came the jewel of their life, Lynda.
Seeing Mae and Frank on the dance floor was a moment of magic. Beyond their talent and beyond their grace, you saw a love you knew was destined. They got coerced into trying out square dancing, and 10 years later, Mae and Frank were one of the most welcomed couples in any Square throughout the Northeast.
After 32 years of dedicated service, Mae retired from her first career at Nova Scotia Power in 1993 as head of payroll and quickly transitioned to her second career on the golf course. You could find Mae at any Ladies Day Tournament and she was deadly with the putter anywhere within 30 feet of the green. She served as President of the Nova Scotia Senior Ladies Golf Association and built many lifelong friendships through golf. Mae and Frank spent countless days on golf courses throughout Nova Scotia, enjoying each other’s company in their retirement, uplifting others and unknowingly left their grown daughter feeling like golf had replaced her as their jewel.
Mae loved to travel—for adventure, warmth, golf, dancing, or memorable family experiences. One of Nannie Mae’s most special vacations was visiting Mickey Mouse with Nick and Stef. Mae held a very special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She gave them love that was unconditional, set an example that was inspirational and left a legacy that is immeasurable.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years Frank, daughter Lynda Foran (Steve); grandchildren Nicholas Foran (Kelsey) and Stephanie Foran (Mikael Tardif), great-grandchildren Max Foran Stanford, Liam Foran; brother, Kenneth (Sharon), sister-in-laws, Jean MacLean and Verna MacLean and many nieces and nephews. Mae was predeceased by siblings, James MacLean, Jean Erasmus (and husband Arnold), William MacLean, Ann MacLean and Dale Treen (and husband Oland).
Special thanks for the loving care provided on the 7th floor of the VG, QEII and to Bayshore Homecare.
