Frances Gertrude (Jubien) Williams, 87, passed away at home on January 11, 2014. Born in Halifax on May 20, 1926 to Clifford and Edna (Dalton) Jubien, Fran attended Sir Charles Tupper School and Queen Elizabeth High School. She held the distinction of being the first Head Girl in the new high school. Fran went on to Dalhousie University where she received her Bachelor of Commerce degree. While at Dalhousie, Fran became a lifetime member of Alpha Gamma Delta International Fraternity. In 1953, Fran met and married Bob Williams, and took great pride and pleasure in raising their two children, Rob and Susan and spending many happy summers at the Waegwoltic Club. Fran returned to school in the early 70’s to earn her Bachelor of Education degree from Mount St. Vincent University. She taught at BC Silver Junior High School for 18 years. Following her retirement, Fran and Bob spent many “Snowbird” winters in Clearwater, Florida and loved their summers at the cottage in Malagash, puttering and growing great zucchini. Fran was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Church, where she taught Sunday School, and spent many years on the Chancel Guild. Fran was a supremely positive person, always looking at the bright side, ready for a laugh and interested in what was going on. After moving to Regatta Point, Fran took full advantage of the community spirit there. Playing bridge on Wednesdays, Thursday was “brown bag lunch day”, and she enjoyed working with the members of the T3 group to raise money for those less fortunate.
She is survived by her son, Rob (Tracey), son-in-law, Keith Dexter; grandchildren, Kimberlee and Kyra Williams, and Ben and Teddy Dexter, niece Heather Saunders, nephew Brian (Sue) Saunders and their children, Leslie, Beth, and Jeff.
She is predeceased by her husband, Bob Williams,; daughter, Susan Williams Dexter; sister, Joan Saunders and her husband Bob Saunders; and brother-in-law, Eugene Williams.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 9:00pm, Wednesday, January 15 at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Clayton Park.
