RAYMOND [Thornhill], Freda M. [Nan] 1920 – 2014 . It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow we announce the death at Northwood Centre [7C] on Saturday, August 30th, 2014 of our wonderful and great Mom. She was a dear wife, Mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
She was born in Fortune, Fortune Bay, Nfld. and was the daughter of the late Alice [Lawrence] and John Thornhill. She immigrated to Nova Scotia on the S.S. Caribou in May of 1930.
She was the dear Mom of and survived by Larry [Barb], Marie [Ken] Gannon, Gerry [Luciette]; loving Nan of Charlene [Tony] Raymond, Germaine Miller, Lynn Shore, Tom [Rosemary], Shaun [Tracey] Gannon, Scott [Tammy] Gannon, and Holly Raymond; great-grandmother to Keenan, Zac, Kaelan, Makayla, Michael, Sarah, Cameron, and Caitlyn and great-great-grandmother to Serena.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gregory [1979] and her son, Pat [1996] daughter-in-law Belva [2011], her sisters Annie [the late Bernard] Eisener, Martha, Florence and Winifred [in childhood], brothers Gerald [Dianne], Alex [the late Loretta].
She is survived by sisters, Helen May Burgess, Lillian [the late George] Nelson and Norman [Elaine] Thornhill of Bridgewater. She will be dearly missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
For over 20 years she worked at Camp Hill Veterans Hospital as a dietary aid. A job she loved and met & kept a great deal of friends. One of her joys and great accomplishments was her hobbies, sewing, knitting, crafts, ceramics, and of course her lexicons which she taught her children to do. She was a tough, humble and gracious lady especially for those less fortunate than herself. She suffered many hardships in life and several illnesses and faced them all with strength, courage and determination. All those who knew and loved her will remember her as a woman who was strong, spirited, and generous and an inspiration to all whose lives she touched.
To all the workers on 7C Northwood Centre – Mom says Thank You to all you “Brats” and we [Larry, Marie and Gerry] want to say THANKS to each and everyone one of you [Cathie B., Peggy, Adele, Kathy, Bolivia, Bev, Alex, Tanya, Shelly, Susan, Roxanne] to name just a few. Your love and care of Mom will never be forgotten. You all were our ‘rock’ on many occasions.
