Frederick Gerard Martin

Age 87 of Herring Cove, passed away peacefully January 14 2014 at the VG Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Born in Halifax he was a son of the late Thomas and Lillian (MacDonald) Martin. Fred worked for the CBC for 30 years. He was very active in his community and church, a founding member of the Herring Cove and District Volunteer Fire Department, President of the Herring Cove and District Rate Payers Association and his presence was felt in many community events.

Survived by his wife of 62 years, Olive (Brown) and children, Barbara Swinimer, Janice Lethbridge (Gus), David Martin, Peter Martin (Debbie), Donald Martin (Janet), Glenn Martin (Lisa), Angela McNeill (Chris). He was the much loved Puppy of David and Daniel Swinimer, Michelle Martin, Kristin Whitehead, Megan and Taylor Martin, Jenna and Lee-Ann Martin, Mary Elizabeth and Kathleen McNeill. Great-grandfather to Danielle and Kameron. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Frank, Thomas and Donald (in infancy) and son-in-law, Rupert Swinimer. The family would like to thank the staff of 5B VG Hospital, VON and Northwood Home Care. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 19th, at 2 pm - 4 pm in J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, B3S 0E1 (455-0531). Funeral Service to be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 151 Hebridean Dr, Herring Cove, on Monday, January 20th at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
