Frederick George Norris

Fred was retired from DND (1957-1994). Fred always enjoyed talking with people and sharing stories of the “old neighborhood”, he was an avid reader, loved listening to music and dancing the night away, he enjoyed an early morning coffee and his daily strolls down Spring Garden Road.

Fred is survived by his step daughter, Sharon (Bart Whalen); sisters, Kathleen Norris and Sister Helen Norris (Sister of Charity). Also by his nephew, Chris (Colleen Norris) and niece, Maria (Robert Boudreau). A special mention to Fred’s companion Norma McPherson; together they shared many laughs and adventures.

He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Marlena; parents, James and Elizabeth Norris; sister, Sister Jean Norris (Sister of Charity); brothers, James and Leo; half sisters, Gertrude Foran, Cecilia Foran and Margaret (Sister Thomas Edward).

Fred’s courage was most apparent when he steadfastly battled prostrate cancer, and then faced his own diagnosis and recurrence. A special thanks to Dr. Rutledge, Dr. Ymeri and all the wonderful nurses of 5A who took Fred under their wing and made his last days as comfortable as possible.

In keeping with Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the arrangement of J.A. Snow Funeral Home. Fred’s wishes were no visitation. The service will be held at Saint Patrick’s Church on Brunswick Street in Halifax at 11:00 am on Monday, December 11th, 2017.
