

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Freeman, on April 23, 2013, at the age of 87. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late William Edward and Mary Catherine (Smith) Purchase. He was employed by Canada Post for over 31 years. Freeman also served overseas in the Second World War with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and was rewarded with the Netherlands Appreciation medal for his participation in the liberation of the Netherlands. He loved to go on bus tours and travelled to many parts of North America. Freeman is survived by his son, Bruce (Jane Hudson) of Truro, daughters Susan and Rhonda, both of Halifax. He is also survived by his brother, William (Bernice Murphy), Halifax and sister Lillian (Robert Lafferty), St. Catharines, Ontario, as well as 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by wife, Marion (Worth), grandson, Justin Purchase, sisters Alice, Vera, Doreen (Hendsbee) and Barbara (Hendsbee). Visitation will be held Sunday April 28 from 2-4 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. The memorial service will be held at the same location Monday April 29 at 11am. There will be a private family burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
