George Bernard Elliott

It is with profound sadness that we announce that George Bernard Elliott, 90, of Halifax passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 7, 2011 at Northwood Manor. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late George Albert and Theresa (Delaney) Elliott. George had a distinguished and rewarding military career beginning with the 1st Coast Brigade Royal Canadian Artillery then with the Hamilton Light Infantry. He served in Europe in WWII and was a P.O.W. for ten months. George continued in the military with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corp in Montreal, New Brunswick, Germany, Egypt and Halifax until his retirement in 1972 at the rank of Master Warrant Officer. Following retirement he worked at the Victoria General Hospital until 1982. He was married for 58 years to the love of his life, Marion (Fraser) with whom he shared a wonderful life and they both enjoyed many summers together at the cottage on Piggott Lake, winters in Florida and in later years, summers in Hubbards. He also enjoyed fishing, hockey, soccer, softball and darts but his family was his life. George will forever be remembered for his infectious smile, hearty laugh and joking personality. He is survived by his son Bernie (Bonnie), daughter Beverly (Gary Clarke) and son John (Marilyn), six grandchildren, Geoffrey, Trevor, Shelley, Thomas, Andrea and Matthew as well as six great grandchildren (Brody, Taylor, Rebecca, Logan, Ava and Isla). George was predeceased by his wife, Marion (Fraser), brothers Elmer and Leo and sisters Hilda and Marjorie. Visitation is Thursday, February 10, 2011 at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax between 6:00 and 8:00 pm where funeral service will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 10:00 am. A reception to follow. Burial at St. John’s Cemetary.
