George was predeceased by his father, James (1967); his mother, Phyllis (2014); his Aunt Mary Fong (2022); and his Aunt Lily and Uncle Hon Chan.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Jennie Wolter (Calgary, AB); his brother, Bill Seto (Burnaby, BC), and Bill’s wife, Lorraine; his nieces, Janine (and her husband, Lee Cooper) and Andrea Seto, both of British Columbia; and his great-nephews, Fynn James and Arlo Jack Cooper (BC). He is also survived by his Uncle John Fong (Nova Scotia); his cousins J.J., Michael, Anthony, Steven, Lee, and Marissa Fong (Hong Kong and Nova Scotia).; and his cousins Salina, Sylvia, Tim, Eric, and Daniel Chan (Canada and United States).
George was a proud Cape Bretoner through and through. Though his family moved to the Vancouver area in 1974, George eventually found his way back to his beloved Nova Scotia, settling in Halifax. His heart never left the island, and his deep love for the Celtic culture led him to learn and write in the Gaelic language after his return.
George’s love for Celtic music and culture touched every part of his life. He was a dedicated member of An Cliath Clis (Gaelic for the Halifax Milling Group), where he devoted his time helping document the group’s milling songs. He played a special role in Nova Scotia’s Celtic music community, forming lasting friendships with many of its members and contributing to its spirit and continuity.
In his final days, George was surrounded by friends and family who loved him dearly, many having the chance to visit and share fond memories, including his cousin Marissa Fong and Uncle John Fong.
We invite you to share your memories and stories of George—moments of joy, music, and laughter that captured the essence of who he was. His spirit lives on in every tune, every smile, and every fond recollection.
