Gerald ‘Gerry’ Albert MacQuin was a caring husband, father, papa, brother, and friend. He left this world unexpectedly on May 25, 2024, at the age of 69.
He was the second of 6 children born to Joyce and Lewis MacQuin (Darlene, Mark, Christine, Clinton, and Lynn). At 21, Gerry married the love of his life, Dorothy Anne Mullins, and went on to have three children: Melody (Darryl) Chickness, Tanya (Steven) Stewart, and Gerald (Kelley) MacQuin.
Gerald is survived by his eight grandchildren: Kyle MacQuin, Jessica Hartjes, Devon Hartjes, Austin Stewart, Hunter MacQuin, Joshua Stewart, Logan MacQuin, and Caitlin MacQuin.
Gerald MacQuin was enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, serving in the Army. He retired from the service as a Sergeant. Military service brought him and his family to many homes across Canada. Attending yearly Remembrance Day ceremonies, he continued to honor his time in the service.
Following his time in the military, Gerald led a successful career in the transportation industry, receiving numerous certifications and eventually instructing classes.
An active member of the rural community of Loch Lomond, Gerald carried a high spirit and lifted that of others. He was a volunteer firefighter and loved to lend a helping hand whenever he could. Gerald spent his leisure time singing country songs and playing cards. He made sure everyone knew when he won a game of washer toss.
Hunting and fishing were among the activities enjoyed by Gerald. An avid outdoorsman, his passion has been passed down to his children and grandchildren. Always on his feet, he was constantly embarking on projects from automobile mechanics to building swimming pools.
Respected by all as both strong and wise, Gerald gave the best advice at exactly the time it was needed. His presence will truly be missed.
