

MURPHY, Gerald Patrick “Dilly” – 79, of Halifax/ Lower Sackville passed away May 20, 2011 at the QEII Halifax Infirmary Site. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Christopher) and Herbert Murphy. He was a member of the Halifax Longshoremen’s Association, Local 269 for 31 years.
During his years as a Longshoreman, he worked at both Halterm and Ceres Corp. as a gantry crane operator and foreman. Dilly was also a long-time member of the Resolute Club. He enjoyed going to Bingo on Sundays, especially when he won.
Dilly is survived by daughter Shelley (Randi) Parsons; sons Patrick (Marsha), Gary (Valerie), Jerry (Linda); sisters Shirley Skiba and Barbara Cranston; brothers, Robert and Philip; grandchildren Tim (Amy), Jackie (Rob), Nicole (Brian), Gerrett (Chantale), Sheri (Dean), Darlene (John), Tori, Alysha, and Lindsay; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Shirley (Pottie), brothers Stanley, Donald, and Ronald “Nonnie”.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 24th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531. Funeral service to be held Wednesday, May 25th at 11 a.m. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
