

Pottie, Gerard Ernest, Age 84, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2015 in the palliative care unit of the VG hospital, Halifax, surrounded by his loving family. Born in L'ardoise, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Ernest and Agnes (MacDonald) Pottie. He moved to Halifax as a young boy and worked for Canada Packers Ltd. for several years. He eventually owned his own company, Interprovincial Meat Sales Ltd., until retirement. He enjoyed hockey, bowling, a good game of cards, Sunday dinners with family, and entertaining the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Gerard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine (Harris), his daughters Nancy (David) Gray, Paula (Ken) Cormier; grandchildren Ryan (Emily) Gray, Erin (Kyle) Spindler, Steven (Meghan) Gray, and Brandon and Brittany Cormier; great grandchildren Reid Spindler and Clara Gray. He is also survived by brothers, Hector (Joan), Lawrence (Sharon); sisters Gertrude (late Arthur) Landry, Loretta (late Morris) Peters, Agnes Wainman, Hattie (Harold) O'Rourke, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Angus, Edward (Evelyn), and Sister Martha. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 8 from 2 – 4pm at JA Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 9 at 10:30am at St. Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax, Father Michael Grace presiding. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery following the reception. Thank you to all of our friends and family for all of your kind words and loving support and to “Shep” for always being there.
