She graduated from St. Patrick’s Girls High School and was awarded the Edith Cavell award for academic achievement and overall character. She went on to attend Mount St. Vincent College. In 1943 she married William Brewster Greenwood who was her devoted husband for 59 years until his death in May 2002. She was predeceased by brother Carl Bookholt and sister Rosemary (Martel) Brown. She was a powerful role model for her children and grandchildren who continue every day to follow in her footsteps. The center of Gloria’s life was her family. Through her life style, demeanour and daily examples of kindness she was a role model for all of her children, their spouses and their children. She was loved and respected. Mama will be greatly missed by all of us who love her so dearly. We shall cherish memories of her kindness, generosity and unconditional love for each and every one of her family. She had a way of making you feel special with her warm smile. Her favorite place in the world was her cottage in Mineville where she led an active life gardening, cooking wonderful meals for her family, serving tea, hooking rugs, knitting baby sweaters, and baking the best homemade bread and brownies. “Mama” was the center of our family and kept us all updated on the latest family news. Gloria was a prize winning bowler like her father before her and participated in many leagues with her bowling friends. She was a long time volunteer with the IWK Hospital. Visitation will take place on Thursday, Aug 2nd, from 4-8pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Clayton Park, Halifax (902) 455-0531.
