

Gordon James Ryder, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 27th, 2010 in the QE11 Health sciences Center, following a brief illness.
Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Vernon and Hazel (Johnston) Ryder. He is survived by his sister Verna Ryder, with whom he shared a loving home; a cousin, Oril Murdock, Victoria, B.C.
A talented floral designer who operated the business known as The Blossom Shop Ltd. in Halifax for 50 years, retiring in 1988.
James was a long time member of West End Baptist Church, where he served on several boards and committees. He also served as secretary – treasurer of the Sunday School for 48 years. He was always willing to apply his talent to decorate his church and create floral arrangements for his many friends. He loved his gardens and always looked forward to spring and his tulip display. He enjoyed listening to the singing of the old favorite hymns and music by the great composers.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his paternal grand-parents, James and Mary Elizabeth (Hawkins) Ryder; aunts, Mabel, Ethel, Jennie, Kathleen Ryder of Halifax and Josephine (Johnston) Priest, Pictou, NS; uncles, Ernest Ryder, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Edward Ryder, Halifax.
Viewing to take place Tuesday, June 29th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS
Funeral Service Wednesday, June 30th at 2PM from West End Baptist Church, to be conducted by Rev. Nolan Lee, sr. minister of West End Baptist Church.
Interment in St. John’s Cemetery.
