

Graham’s first leadership role as a negotiator began as a recruiter & coach in 1956 of the Vivas Bantam Baseball team. The final team he coached and managed was the Vaughan Furriers, which went on to win the Maritime Junior Baseball Championship in 1962; Graham’s teams were always multi-racial, which wasn’t easy in the 1960’s. He was the first African Nova Scotia Alderman for Ward 3 and later Councilor for District 12 in Halifax for over 27 years. He had the distinction of serving longer than any other councilor in Halifax.
He also served as Deputy Mayor in 1978-1979; Graham was co-owner with his late Brother Billy of the well known and very popular Arrows Night Club. They brought many popular entertainers from all over the world. He was employed with CBC for 21 years. Since 1978 Graham has held the same two seats at the Metro Center (Scotiabank Centre), supporting the Halifax Mooseheads Hockey Team. Some of his honors and appointments include; Halifax Port Authority, Dr W.P Oliver Wall of Honor, 2002 QE II Golden Jubilee Medal, 2012 QE II Diamond Jubilee Medal, Halifax Bridge Commission, Halifax Water Commission, Metro Centre/World Trade Board and many more recognitions and awards.
Graham is survived by his loving wife Ardith (Hamilton) of 52 years, and their six children: Carmella (Mississauga), Graham Jr. (Karen) Beechville, Pricilla (Rohan) Brampton, Gordon (Nathalie) Rockland, Stacy (Mississauga), and Christopher (Aleesa) Beechville. Siblings: Phyllis, David, Vernon (Burly) Halifax, Karen (Toronto), 13 Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings: Evelyn, Lillian, Theodore, Leroy, George Jr, Evelyn, Donald Sr. Edward “Billy” and Robert Sr.
Visitations will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive on Friday September 11, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Celebration of Life service will be held 1 pm Saturday September 12 at St. Patrick’s Church, Brunswick St. with Dr. Rhonda Britton officiating, assisted by Rev. Wallace Smith Sr. Repast to follow service in the St. Patrick’s church hall. He will be laid to rest in the Fall River family Cemetery. In lieu of followers, donations can be made to the NS Cancer Society and the NS Heart & Stroke Foundation.
