Guy Leon Noel

Guy is survived by his wife and best friend of 65 years Joan (Lownds), Daughter Catherine Lerette (Stephen) and sons Stephen, Gregory (Jocelyne), and Peter. Grandfather to Christopher Lerette, Allison Lerette, Emily Lerette, Claire Noel, and Spencer Noel.

Guy was predeceased by his parents and brothers William (Doris), Bud (Patricia), Rene (Mary), David and Denis.

Guy spent his formative years in Riverbend, Quebec. He was a member of the hockey and curling teams at school, representing Quebec in the national junior curling championship in 1954. Guy received his undergraduate degree from Saint Francis Xavier University and his chemical engineering degree from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.

During his university years Guy made many longtime friends but most importantly met the love of his life – Joan. Guy and Joan were married in May 1959. During university Guy worked summers in the paper mill in Riverbend which led to his first full-time job at a paper mill in Gatineau Quebec. Joan worked in the hospital in Ottawa until the fall of ’59 when the longing for Nova Scotia led them back to the east coast. Guy worked for the federal and provincial governments for 10 years before joining the faculty at Saint Mary’s University in 1969. Guy spent over 30 years at Saint Mary’s. He taught for several years before joining the administration team where he spent the remainder of his career in various roles all the way up to Administrative Vice President.

An avid golfer and member of Ashburn golf club for many years – including 8 years on the board of directors, 2 as president. Guy loved many sports and spent countless hours at the rink and by the court supporting his children and grandchildren. He also had a love for cards and enjoyed playing poker and crib regularly with his friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday November 20th, 2024 at Saint Agnes Parish in Halifax at 10:00am. A reception and visitation will be held in the church hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Berkeley Gladstone. Their support and care with both Guy and Joan over the past months has been invaluable.
