Dad was born in Moncton where he grew up and married his beloved wife Eileen (Roberts) who predeceased him one day after their 61st wedding anniversary. Early years of dad and mom’s married life were spent in Riverview, New Brunswick with their young family eventually moving to Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia when dad took a work transfer.
Dad spent his career at IBM as a computer technician and traveled extensively throughout the Atlantic provinces, Canada and the United States. A natural problem solver, he could fix almost anything—from lawn mowers to old televisions—and famously kept appliances and his Volvos running long past their expected lifespan.
As a man of few words, his passion was the outdoors. Dad loved fly fishing, camping at Kejji, canoeing, cross-country skiing and most of all sailing. Family summers spent at the cottage in Pointe-du-Chêne and sailing the Northumberland Strait created memories that will be cherished forever by all of us.
In retirement, dad and mom enjoyed several car trips across Canada to see their family in Alberta, and traveling with friends. Dad also enjoyed woodworking, leaving behind treasured pieces that will be enjoyed for generations.
Dad is survived by his children: Karla (Donnie) MacNeil, Nancy (Robert Murray) Phillips, Margaret (Wayne Ward) Phillips, and Harold (Jennifer) Phillips; grandchildren Annie (Devon Gillies) MacNeil, Logan (Maddi Faulker) MacNeil, Kayleigh (Kaleb Murphy) Hill, Abby Murray, and Emma Hill; and his great-granddaughter, Harper Murphy.
Dad and Grampy, we love you and will miss you deeply. Through your example, you taught us the value of hard work and never giving up. You will live on forever in our hearts.
The family thanks the compassionate team at the Halifax Infirmary. A private family service will be held at a later date.
