

Heather Gay Blaikie was born on September 14th, 1957 in Newcastle, New Brunswick to Annie Whitney (Ford) and Edgar Whitney. Gay was a fun-loving and nurturing soul who cared tirelessly for those around her. In 1981, she married David Blaikie, and the two went on to have countless adventures, travelling the world from the redwood trees of California to the Great Wall of China. They had two daughters, Laura and Kathryn, who happily joined them in many of these adventures. Gay was a wonderful mother, and was intensely proud of her two girls. She was a nurse, and worked in hospitals in Moncton, Truro, Boston, and Halifax. She was respected and cherished by her patients and colleagues.
Gay was a good and constant friend to many. Her greatest love was her three grandchildren, Madeline, Jake, and Murray. To her grandchildren, she was “Nana” and they adored her.
A loving wife, beloved mother, sister, friend and servant of God. She will be missed by all.
Heather Gay Blaikie is survived by her husband, David Blaikie, daughters Laura (Colin Richardson) and Kathryn (David Turnbull), grandchildren Madeline and Jake Richardson, and Murray Turnbull, her twin sister Fay (Alan Jones), and brother Dale Whitney. She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Edgar Whitney.
A funeral and reception with a light lunch will be held on Tuesday, May 20th at 2:00 pm at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, Nova Scotia. The funeral ceremony will be livestreamed.
