Helen Josephine Morgan

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our mom ‘Helen’. She passed peacefully in her sleep on September 11, 2021 at the age of 94. Born in Halifax on March 19, 1927, and raised on Hammonds Plains Road in Bedford, she was the daughter of Walter and Ann Giles.

She is survived by her children Brenda (Warren), Blair (Debbie), Greg (Lynn), Randall (Barb), Connie (Barry), Gary (Shelley), as well as 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Bill; daughter Gloria; brother Jack and partner James “Jim” Burke.

Mom boarded in Halifax where she did various jobs, met and married our father Bill Morgan, started a family and moved to Bedford. An active part of her community, mom hosted elections in our home while raising seven children.

When we were old enough, she went back to work at Zellers and then Towers until our father got cancer. She stayed home to take care of him until his death.

Mom was involved in a bowling league and the choir. She loved knitting, playing cards and driving. After dad’s death, she became very active in the Veterans Merchant Navy and did a lot of dinner parties and events.

While in the Veterans Merchant Navy, she met her second love, Jim. They travelled and really enjoyed each other’s company until Jim got dementia; mom stayed by his side until the very end.

She was considered a sweetheart by many everywhere she went.

There will be a funeral service at Saint Ignatius Church in Bedford, Friday September 17 at 10:00am with burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Sackville, where she will be laid to rest with her daughter and our beloved sister, Gloria.
