It is with regret and profound sadness, Harry’s family announce his sudden and unexpected death on August 20th, 2020, at 63 years young. Harry was born in Halifax, NS in 1957 to the late Petronella (Nellie) Van der Kallan and Henricus (Hans) Burgers.
Harry never met a stranger in any aspect of his life, every person he met became a friend. Harry was especially proud of his Dutch heritage and being a first generation Canadian. His parents arrived at Pier 21 to make a life and create a family. Harry was a long time employee of CGI where he was a Partner and Director of Consulting, he will be greatly missed by all of his coworkers and clients. Harry was a proud member of the band Exit 0, playing at various fundraising gigs and backyard parties, spanning more than two decades. Harry loved the game of soccer and was an avid player, coach and fan of the game.
Gardening was another passion, often sharing his knowledge with neighbors and friends. Most weekends Harry could be found with friends, hiking, biking, beach hopping, boating, camping, singing around a campfire, always ending the evening with his guitar and a song. Always up for an adventure, Harry gave downhill skiing a try just before his 60th birthday. He loved weekends at Ski Wentworth and their annual March Ski trips.
Survived by his partner in life and love, Wanda, his sons Erik (Deanna), Ryan (Sarah), and Garet. Big brother to adoring sisters Jennifer (Philip) Wilkie and Heidi (Jim) Miller. Lovingly missed by nieces Selena (Clint) and Samantha (Nick), nephews Chris, Alex (Katie), Tom (Alex), and Matthew (Erica), a great nephew and great niece. Facetime chats will not be the same for granddaughters Lyla and Dahlia.
Special thanks to Dr. Andy Blackadar and the nursing staff at Queens General Hospital in Liverpool for their care and compassion. They provided the time and space for Wanda to be with Harry and have their final time together.
Visitation will be held Saturday August 29th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Masks mandatory.
Memorial donations may be made to JDRF or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
