it is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Hope, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Parkstone Enhanced Care. Mom was born in Rhode Island, MA in 1930. She was the daughter of the late Howard & Blanche (Kelly) Clarke. She was predeceased by her husband Allan McKeown, her sister Bonnie Simms and granddaughter, Erin McKeown.
For most of her married life she was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and baking at which she was incredibly good. Coming home to Mom’s cooking after school will always be a happy memory. Mom provided an idyllic childhood along with Dad with snow days, beaches, camping and giving all holidays special festive attention. The Catholic Church was a big part of her life, and her faith was unwavering. In Newfoundland she was involved with years of bible study, helped to set up groups to visit the sick and the shut-ins. Took Meals on Wheels to people in hospitals and at home. When Mom returned to Halifax, she joined the CWL at Saint Thomas Aquinas for 8 years. Six of those years on the executive of the CWL. She belonged to an Alpha Group, taught primary Sunday school, at one point was the only woman senior alter server. She also sang in the choir. She was an avid reader and lover of all animals. Mom will be much missed and never forgotten.
Mom is survived by her daughters, Gaye (Barry) DeWolfe, Dartmouth; Cynthia (Bill) McKeown-Cargill, Hammonds Plains; sons, Scott (Debra) McKeown, Ontario; Bruce (Holly Peterson) McKeown, Hubley; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
