Hugh Gregory Curren passed away on September 25th in his 67th year with his loving family by his side. Born and raised in Halifax, he was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Joan Curren and brother Stephen. He is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Grace, son Ted and numerous extended family.
It’s hard to capture his essence in words, but those who knew and loved him know just how kind, strong, gentle and dependable a man he was as evidenced in the life long relationships he fostered. We can’t tell you how much we will miss his kindness and strength and his counsel. He was who we turned to for help. He didn’t believe in replacing things that could be repaired (sometimes infuriatingly so!) and could fix almost anything. He enjoyed the sea all his life and was a long time member of RNSYS and we have many great memories of cruising, racing and just putting around on the waters of Nova Scotia. He had an interesting eclectic career that saw him on ice cutters up north with the coast guard to driving on the Indianapolis Speedway with Al Unser Sr.
His friends will remember him fondly as the quiet one who would unexpectedly tie a napkin on his head and become the Grand Pooh Bah, or would impromptly screech in a dear new friend at a dinner party. His children will remember his unconditional love and support always.
He was a very good man.
He walked through life softly but left deep footsteps. We will miss him forever.
There will be a visitation Thursday October 1, 2020 from 6-8pm and a service Friday October 2, 2020 at 2pm in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
If you wish, donations in Hugh’s name can be made to The Maritime Heart Centre, the Canadian Paraplegic Association or a charity of your choice.
